Physical Education

VolleyballPhysical Education is a core subject therefore all students must take this subject. It includes the skills and knowledge associated with an active and healthy life style. The topics studied include: Volleyball, Basketball, Dance, Fitness, Gymnastics, Track and Field, Weight Training, Swimming and Badminton.

Not only are sportsmanship and team work are stressed through traditional activities and innovative activities such as Omnikin and Aerobics. The Provincial minimum requirement for Physical Education instruction is 75 hours over the course of one school year. At Alexandra, students will receive over 82 hours of instruction in Physical Education (delivered every other day).

Alexandra is multiple winner of of the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD) Award for their physical education programs for students. Alexandra has received the QDPE/QPE award every year since 1995. Since 2003-2004 we received the platinum award (second highest level of participation in physical education programs) and since 2008 the Diamond Award (the highest level). Sports are a significant and popular component in the life of our school.

Physical Education supplies: Our school requires that students be dressed properly for Physical Education classes. Gym shorts or sweat pants, t-shirts, and gym shoes are required. Students are assigned participation marks for appropriate Phys. Ed. attire.
